FAQ

  • Senior Groups

    • Is VR suitable for seniors?

Yes, absolutely! VR is suitable for all ages. Most games are easy to access and our hosts guide you step by step. Together we choose calm or funny experiences that are easy to control.

    • Do you need gaming experience to participate?

Not at all. No experience is needed. Everything is explained calmly and our hosts help with setting up and using the VR headset. Within a few minutes you’ll get the hang of it.

    • Can you do VR while sitting down?

Yes, many games can also be played perfectly while sitting down. This applies both to people with limited mobility and to those who simply prefer not to stand for long periods.

    • Is it safe for people with glasses or limited mobility?

Yes, the VR headsets are spacious enough for glasses and there is always guidance available. We pay attention to safety, balance and enough space between participants.

    • What kind of games are available for seniors?

We have calm, creative and funny games that are not focused on speed - such as painting in 3D, nature experiences, puzzle games and virtual travel. Our hosts help choose what fits the group best.

    • Can we play with a mixed group (young and old together)?

Yes, and that can actually be a lot of fun. VR connects generations: grandparents and grandchildren can play together in the same virtual world or encourage each other.

    • How does a visit with a senior group at VRcafe work?

The group first receives a short explanation and demonstration from the host. After that, participants take turns or play in small groups. Meanwhile, others can watch, laugh or take photos - it’s mainly about having fun together.

    • Is there seating available for people who want to rest for a while?

Yes, there are chairs available in the space so you can comfortably watch along or take a break. Everyone can participate at their own pace.

    • What if someone finds the VR headset intimidating or wants to stop for a moment?

That is absolutely no problem. The host calmly helps remove the headset and possibly try something else. Often watching along is just as fun, so nobody has to do anything that doesn’t feel right.

    • Is a VR activity also fun as a group outing for, for example, a neighborhood club or association?

Yes, absolutely. VR is a fun group activity where everyone discovers something new. It creates lots of laughter, amazement and enjoyable conversations - ideal as a shared outing for an association or neighborhood group.

    • What is a fun day out for a senior group in North Holland?

A VR outing for seniors at VRcafe Haarlem: accessible, indoors, fully hosted and just as much fun to watch. For groups of up to 50 people, right next to Haarlem station.

    • What does a senior outing at VRcafe cost?

Group rates: €37.50 per person per hour (from 1 hour), €32.50 per person (from 2 hours) and €27.50 per person (from 3 hours). Unlimited drinks €14.95 per person, food and drinks €19.95 per person.

    • How large can a senior group be?

Up to 50 people. Eleven people play at the same time; the rest watch along on screens with a coffee or a drink, and then you swap.

    • Can we add coffee or lunch to the outing?

Yes, from coffee with something sweet to unlimited food and drinks. Everything can be booked in advance as a package, so the organiser has nothing to worry about.

    • How do I request a senior outing?

Through the request form on this page or by phone. We will help you think through the programme, duration and catering and send you a tailored proposal.

    • What is an active but not too strenuous group activity for older people?

VR at VRcafe: you move at your own pace, you can take part seated and pause whenever you like. More active than a lecture or bingo, but without the physical strain.

    • Can you travel back to places from the past in VR?

Yes, virtual travel experiences take you to cities, nature reserves and landmarks all over the world. For many seniors, familiar places make a wonderful conversation starter.

    • Is a VR outing suitable for a day-care or day activity group?

Yes, we regularly welcome day activity and wellbeing groups and adapt the pace, game selection and support. Discuss your wishes in advance and we will tailor the programme.

    • How does payment work for an association or care organisation?

Associations and care organisations can simply pay by invoice. You receive a clear quotation in advance with all costs per person.

    • Can you come to our care home or community centre?

Yes, with VR on location we bring headsets, screens and hosts to your own venue in the region. Ideal for residents who find travelling difficult.

    • What is an original idea for an anniversary or members' afternoon?

A VR afternoon: members take turns trying something new, everyone else watches along and there is plenty of time for coffee and conversation. We take care of the entire programme.

    • Is there a quiet day or time you recommend for senior groups?

Weekdays during the day are quietest, which means extra attention and space for your group. Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 are ideal times.

    • Besides the fun, what makes VR valuable for older people?

VR sparks curiosity, encourages movement at your own level and creates conversation and connection within the group. Participants often surprise themselves with what they still dare and can do.

    • What is a good winter activity for a seniors' association?

A VR outing is entirely indoors, so it always goes ahead, even in cold or icy weather. With hot drinks alongside, it makes a well-organised winter afternoon for the whole association.

  • Booking

    • How do I book a VR Experience in Haarlem?

Booking is easy via the Book button on our website. Choose your activity, select 60, 90 or 120 minutes, enter the number of players and pick a time slot. You’ll immediately see available times and receive a confirmation by email.

    • Which time slots are available and what time do you recommend?

You can book daily within our opening hours. Available time slots are shown live in the booking system. Weekdays are usually quieter, ideal for smaller groups. Weekends and holidays are busier - book in advance. For groups or those wanting to try multiple games, we recommend 90 or 120 minutes.

    • How much does a booking cost and what is included?

The price depends on duration (60/90/120 min) and timing (weekday/weekend). Included: short briefing, guidance from a host, use of VR headsets & controllers, hygiene covers, and the option to switch between multiple games. Not included (optional): food & drinks, private session, or some premium and escape titles with a small surcharge.

    • Can we come with more than 11 people?

We have 11 play areas, so 11 people can play at the same time. If you come with more than 11, we rotate in rounds; the host manages teams and quick switches. Advice: 9–12 players → 90–120 min; 13+ → 120 min or two slots. Not every title supports 11 players; the host selects suitable games. For VR Racing: max 4 at once.

    • Can I change or cancel my booking?

You can cancel or modify your booking via the website or by contacting us. Please note that cancellation fees may apply depending on how far in advance you cancel or change. You can also add cancellation insurance directly when booking.

    • How far in advance should I book to be sure of a spot?

For small groups, a few days in advance is usually enough. For weekends, holidays or packages (such as kids parties or company outings), we recommend booking at least one week in advance.

    • Can I reserve by phone or email at VRcafe Haarlem?

Yes, you can. Online booking is the fastest, but for questions or group reservations you can always call or email us. We’re happy to help with advice on times and activities.

    • Can I use a gift card or voucher when booking?

Yes. Enter your gift card or voucher code during booking; the amount will be automatically deducted. Gift cards are also available via our website.

    • What happens after my booking at VRcafe Haarlem?

After confirmation, you’ll receive an email with date, time, duration and number of players. On the day itself, just arrive on time - we’ll take care of the rest.

    • How and when do I pay for my booking at VRcafe Haarlem?

You can pay online directly when booking via iDEAL, credit card or gift card. For group bookings or companies, payment on location or by invoice is also possible. Payment confirms your reservation so your time slot is secured.

Alternative: Jansweg parking lot, about a 5-minute walk. By public transport, exit at Haarlem station; bus and train are right outside. Bikes can be parked at the station.

    • Do you get motion sickness from VR?
