    FAQ

    • Good to know

      • What exactly is a VR café?

A VR café is a place to go out where you play virtual reality games with a VR headset, combined with the atmosphere of a café. At VRcafe Haarlem you play with friends, family or colleagues on 11 wireless play areas and 4 sim racing seats, with a drink or snack on the side.

      • What is virtual reality and how does it work?

Virtual reality means you step into a lifelike 3D world through a special headset. You look around, move and play as if you are really there. No experience needed: our hosts explain everything in a couple of minutes.

      • What is a fun group outing in Haarlem?

VRcafe Haarlem is one of the highest rated group outings in Haarlem (Google 4.8, TripAdvisor 5.0). Choose from VR Experience, Laser Tag, Escape Room and Racing, for groups of 2 to 50+ people, right next to Haarlem station.

      • Is VR still fun if you never game?

Yes. Most of our visitors have never tried VR before. You pick from 45+ games across every genre, from relaxed to thrilling, and a host gets you started. Non-gamers are often the most surprised of all.

      • What ages is VRcafe suitable for?
      • What makes VRcafe different from other outings?
      • What does 100% wireless VR mean and why is it better?

Our headsets work completely without cables: you move freely through the play area, with no cords to trip over. That makes the experience more realistic, more comfortable and safer than wired VR.

      • Can you come and play at VRcafe on your own?

Yes, you are welcome on your own too. You simply book a play area, pick your own games and get the same guidance. At our weekly student night and during tournaments you will also easily meet other players.

      • What is the difference between VR at home and VR at VRcafe?

At VRcafe every headset is wireless, but the game runs on a powerful gaming computer. That makes the graphics far better than anything a standalone VR headset at home can handle. You play in spacious play areas, with 45+ games, guidance and spectator screens. If you also want to play at home, you can rent a headset through VR@HOME.

      • What is a fun activity for a reunion or a weekend with friends?

A VR session is a great icebreaker for reunions: everyone joins in, nobody needs experience and there is something to laugh about straight away. Combine it with drinks at our place or in Haarlem city centre around the corner.

      • Do you also organise events or special evenings?

Yes. Alongside regular bookings there is our weekly student night on Thursdays, regular VR tournaments and special offers around holidays and school breaks. Follow the deals page and our socials for the agenda.

      • Do you speak English or German for international guests?

Yes, our hosts guide groups in English as well, and the website is available in English, German and Portuguese. International guests and expats are very welcome.

      • Is VRcafe a good stop for tourists visiting Haarlem?

Absolutely: we are right next to the station, so it combines perfectly with a day out in Haarlem. A session starts at 60 minutes, which fits easily between the city centre, the Grote Markt and the museums.

      • What is a good activity for meeting new people?

VR breaks the ice fast: you play together, cheer each other on and have something to talk about immediately. That is why it works so well for team introductions, orientation groups and groups of friends bringing someone new along.

      • How hygienic are the VR headsets?

Every headset is cleaned after use and fitted with fresh hygiene covers. So you always play with a clean, fresh headset, even on busy days.

    • school trip

      • What exactly is a VR School Trip?

A School Trip at VRcafe is a combination of fun, teamwork and technology. Students step into virtual worlds, solve puzzles, race or play together in teams. Everything is guided by experienced hosts who manage the pace and atmosphere.

      • For which ages or classes is it suitable?

We welcome school groups from around 7 years old (primary school to secondary school). The games and explanations are always adjusted to the age and experience level of the students.

      • How should we prepare for the School Trip?

It is useful to let us know the number of students and supervisors in advance, together with any important details (such as glasses, limited mobility or sensitivity to stimuli). This allows us to prepare the program and games properly.

      • What does a School Trip at VRcafe look like?

Upon arrival, our hosts provide a short explanation and demonstration. After that, the class plays different VR games in rounds, such as Laser Tag, VR Experience or a VR Escape Room. Students who are not playing at that moment can watch on the screens or cheer each other on.

      • Can you also make the School Trip educational?

Yes, absolutely. VR is not only fun, but also educational. Students discover new technology, train teamwork skills and gain insight into modern applications of virtual reality in the real world.

      • Can we choose which VR games the students will play?

Yes. We help you choose games that match the age, interests and learning goals of the group. There are more than 45 titles to choose from, ranging from creative and sports games to puzzle and teamwork games.

      • What if a student finds it exciting or prefers not to play?

No problem. Everyone can participate at their own pace. Students can also watch on the screens and cheer others on. Our hosts make sure everyone feels comfortable.

      • How long does an average School Trip last?

That depends on the group size. For smaller groups, 60 minutes is often enough, but for classes or larger groups we recommend 90 to 120 minutes so everyone gets enough playtime.

      • What is included in the School Trip?

The arrangement includes VR headsets, controllers, guidance from our hosts, an introduction beforehand, safe play areas and screens to watch along. Food and drinks can optionally be added.

      • What happens after the School Trip ends?

After the session, students can talk together or see how VR works behind the scenes. Our hosts are happy to answer questions about VR technology and its future applications.

      • What is a fun school trip in North Holland?

A VR school trip at VRcafe Haarlem: classes of up to 50 students play VR games, laser tag and escape rooms, fully hosted and with screens to watch along. Right next to Haarlem station.

      • How do we get there with the class without arranging buses?

By train: Haarlem station is a one-minute walk away. You get here quickly from anywhere in North Holland and Amsterdam, without expensive coach hire.

      • What does a school trip cost per student?

From €37.50 per student per hour; for longer programmes group rates apply, down to €27.50 per person per hour. Snack and drink packages start at just a few euros per student.

      • How many supervisors do we need to bring?

That is up to the school; our hosts run the entire activity. Supervisors watch along free of charge and can enjoy a cup of coffee.

      • Is there food and drink for the class?

Yes, packages with a snack and a drink can be booked in advance, so the whole class gets something tasty along the way.

      • When is the best time to come with a class?

Weekdays during the day are quiet and give the class plenty of space. Book at least a week in advance, and earlier during busy periods.

      • Is the school trip also suitable as an end-of-year outing or first-year activity?

Certainly, VR works well as an end-of-year celebration or as an ice-breaker for new first-year classes: playing together breaks the ice.

      • What is a school trip that doesn't depend on the weather?

A VR school trip is 100% indoors: the programme always goes ahead, whether it rains or storms. No plan B needed.

      • What is an affordable alternative to a theme park with the class?

A VR school trip: no coach costs thanks to the location by the station, hourly group rates and no queues. Every student is guaranteed playing time instead of hours of waiting.

      • Can two classes come at the same time?

Yes, up to 50 students in total. We create a rotation schedule per class so one group is always playing while another watches, and swaps happen without chaos.

      • Can the school trip be combined with a visit to Haarlem?

Definitely: the city centre is just around the corner. Combine the VR session with a city walk, a scavenger hunt or lunch on the Grote Markt for a complete day programme.

      • How do we arrange payment: in advance, via parents or by invoice?

Schools find it easiest to pay by invoice after confirmation. Paying online in advance is also possible; we will help you find whatever suits your administration best.

      • What is an original alternative to a museum visit with the class?

Combine experience and culture in VR: students can visit the Anne Frank House virtually or step inside famous paintings, followed by free play time. Educational and unforgettable.

    • student night

      • What is a VR Student Night?

A VR Student Night is a fun evening full of action and competition. Together with your association, study club or group of friends, you play various VR games - from Laser Tag to racing or party games. Everything is guided by our hosts.

      • Which groups is a Student Night suitable for?

For student associations, study groups, introduction weeks or groups of friends. Whether you come with 6 or 40 people - we create a program that matches the group and atmosphere.

      • How should we prepare for the evening?

You do not need to bring anything except a good mood. Wear comfortable clothing so you can move freely and let us know how many people are coming when making the reservation.

      • Can we create our own program?

Yes, absolutely! You can choose from different activities such as VR Laser Tag, VR Racing, Free Roam or a mix of party games. Our hosts will help you create a fun and varied program.

      • Is it a competitive evening or more relaxed?

That is completely up to you. Some groups choose a tournament with scores and prizes, while others just want to relax and laugh together. We adjust the pace and atmosphere to your preferences.

      • Can we combine the student night with drinks or food?

Yes, you can. Before or after playing, you can enjoy drinks in the café or book a drinks arrangement. Just let us know when booking so we can take it into account.

      • Do you need VR experience to participate?

No, not at all. Our hosts explain everything clearly and make sure everyone understands it quickly. Within a few minutes you will already be in the middle of the action.

      • How long does an average student night last?

Most groups book between 90 and 120 minutes of playtime. That is enough for multiple rounds, different games and some time to laugh or enjoy a drink in between.

      • Can we also play together with other associations or groups?

Yes, absolutely! We can organize a shared evening with multiple teams or associations. Great for competitions or mixed social evenings.

      • Is it possible to add a theme or special setting?

Definitely! Think of a “retro game night”, “battle night” or “introduction edition”. We are happy to help with decoration, music and suitable game selections.
